The project for the new temporary pavilion for public use in the Archivo garden is conceived as a public and cultural condenser containing the synthesis and essence of what happens in the main building and in the garden. The limits of the project are the natural limits of the Archivo garden and the empty space becomes a space where you can build relationships, it is a structured absence, it is a dialectical and flexible place, it is a meeting and exhibition place, it is a place where the project is part of the context and the context is part of the project. In this sense we conceive the idea of emptiness as fullness, as a socially concrete place.
The purpose of the
project is to define connections and interactions between the project and the
context; in this sense the Archivo garden and pavilion represent a totality.
The project allows for functional flexibility in the management of space, thus becoming suitable for conferences, workshops, exhibitions, concerts, and so on and respecting the maximum height of 3m. The lush garden is reflected and
distorted on the pavilion surfaces, creating a complex interaction between what is natural and what is artificial. The same applies to the roof surface, which
reflects the sky. The cork flooring paradoxically creates a "tectonic
continuity" with the ground vegetation, and its form is a distorted footprint
of the roof; the design of the cork panels is inspired by the arrangement of
the plants in the garden. The pavilion has a steel structure covered with
aluminum panels, on which a multilayer reflective film is applied. The two
structural supports are also considered as a functional space for the electric
system and a storage space. The flooring is made of a mixture of cork granules
and insulation corkboard with a PU binder. This cork has a minimum density of 400 kg/m3. Compressed cork panels with a density of 200 kg/m3 characterize the ceiling; between the panels (5 cm) there are LED lights required for the night lighting of the pavilion.
