Background
Amicus was engaged to fit out Akaysha Energy’s Australian headquarters, a workplace aligned with the company’s leadership in large-scale battery storage and its role in accelerating the transition to renewable energy. The project called for a departure from conventional office typologies, instead seeking a spatial response that could embody the principles underpinning Akaysha’s work.
The brief prioritised adaptability, technical performance and clarity of experience, alongside a strong narrative connection to themes of energy, movement and interconnected systems. The workplace was envisioned as an environment that could evolve with the business, while providing a clear and engaging identity for staff and visitors alike.
Solution
The design response draws directly from the operational logic of battery systems, translating this into a modular spatial framework. Enclosed work zones are conceived as repeatable units, arranged in sequence to create a cohesive yet flexible planning strategy. This approach establishes both order and scalability, allowing the workplace to adapt over time without compromising its underlying structure.
A primary circulation path runs through the space, organising movement and connecting key program elements. Along this spine, translucent partitions define enclosed spaces while maintaining visual permeability, allowing natural light to extend across the floorplate and reinforcing a sense of continuity.
A range of supporting environments are integrated to accommodate different modes of work. A dedicated library offers a quieter setting for concentration, while a tiered forum space enables team gatherings, knowledge sharing and informal interaction. These elements introduce moments of contrast within the overall layout, supporting both individual focus and collective engagement.
Delivery required careful coordination across all stages of construction, particularly in relation to exposed services and bespoke built elements. Early collaboration with interior design partners Made For ensured that design intent was maintained through detailed resolution, while a disciplined construction approach enabled efficient sequencing and a high level of finish throughout.
Benefit
The resulting workplace is defined by clarity, flexibility and a strong conceptual identity. Its modular organisation provides a robust framework for growth, enabling the environment to respond to changing team structures and operational needs.
Light-filled interiors and visually connected spaces promote openness and collaboration, while quieter zones support sustained, focused work. The balance of these environments creates a workplace that is both functional and engaging.
For Akaysha Energy, the project delivers a considered and future-oriented setting that reflects the company’s vision and supports its continued expansion. For Amicus, it represents a successful integration of concept, design and fit out — demonstrating how a clear idea, carried through to completion, can shape both experience and performance within the workplace.
