TWO MICRO-APARTMENTS AND TWO POLY-FURNITURES [1]
With the aim of changing the use and reactivating vacant properties that previously operated as a foreign language school, the interior redesign of a floor within a typical apartment building in the center of Larissa was developed.
The consolidation of individual properties led to the creation of two urban micro-apartments organized around a colored multifunctional furniture structure that accommodates the dwelling’s essential functions.
In this particular version of this micro-apartment, the main design decisions were determined by the wide frontage of the apartment façade, resulting in the development of three distinct linear zones with a gradual transition from privacy to extroversion. The most private functions are concentrated within the zone occupied by the colored multifunctional furniture structure. The intermediate open living zone is positioned between the outdoor space and the more private areas of the micro-apartment, occupying a corresponding position within the privacy gradient. Finally, the terrace zone exhibits the characteristics of a fully open space with complete extroversion.
The most private zone is defined by the multifunctional furniture structure, which incorporates the sleeping area with a small study corner, the bathroom, extensive storage spaces, built-in household appliances, as well as the entirety of the apartment’s mechanical and electrical installations. The structure functions as the primary organizational core of the space, concentrating and concealing everyday domestic functions.
Materiality and color choices emphasize the multifunctional furniture structure as the dominant compositional element of the project. Neutral tones, clean geometries, and slender metal elements prevail within the living area, reinforcing the simplicity of the composition while allowing the concealed functions of the structure to be gradually revealed. In the bathroom, monochromatic surfaces of polished cement plaster are combined with a full-height smoked mirror, creating an atmosphere of calmness and spatial continuity.
