The project concerns the interior design of a house for a young couple with three children. The space is a shell that was damaged by the floods of 2023 and has not been inhabited since then. The main goal was to bring life back to the house by organizing the spaces in a way that allows the three children to live comfortably in two bedrooms, without reducing the quality of the sleeping and study areas. The main design move was to enlarge the living area by creating a slightly elevated dining space between the living room and the kitchen.
Another important goal, was to create as many storage spaces and cabinets as possible in the apartment. This led to the design of custom furniture pieces that include built-in storage. Special attention was also given to the couple’s bedroom, so that the basic functions of the space are arranged in a comfortable and calm environment.
The material choices try to balance rustic elements with simple, clean lines. A limited palette of materials is used and repeated in different parts of the house to create a sense of unity.
Solid lacquered wood was used for parts of the furniture and the kitchen, while pink marble was selected for the worktops and the raised dining area. The pink linear elements add a sense of lightness and contrast with the closed cabinets in the living room. In the more private areas of the house, soft colors and earthy tones were chosen to create a calm atmosphere, while some brighter colors appear in the children’s bedrooms.
At the same time as the interior design, the project extends to the apartment’s balcony and to part of the shared outdoor space of the residential complex. The balcony is designed as a small outdoor extension of the home, with a built-in bench and a fixed table, while linear lighting is integrated into the ceiling to create a soft atmosphere during the evening.
In the shared outdoor area, natural materials and simple design gestures are used in order to minimize intervention on the natural ground. Light fabric shading structures and large communal tables create a space where residents can gather, relax, and spend time together. The planting follows a more natural approach, with trees, shrubs, and flowering plants that help people feel connected to the space and link the built elements with the surrounding landscape, creating a calm and welcoming environment for everyday outdoor use.
