The surgical pavilion expansion provides four floors dedicated to surgical services, cardiology, oncology and endoscopy services, and improved patient convenience/amenities.
Located on the site of a former parking lot, the expansion provides an important connection to existing facilities, and combines with a new medical office building and a new parking garage to establish a campus-like development for this Jersey Shore hospital.
The design of the expansion incorporates a series of pavilions and interlocking spaces that respond to the scale and character of the surrounding coastal landscape. The increase in surgical services space dominates the expansion and is contained in a large volume that cantilevers over the building entry. The additional programmatic spaces provide outpatient services and occupy the lower levels for patient convenience and proximity to patient/visitor amenities. The interior spaces are organized into layers that separate a welcoming public realm from the more private clinical spaces.
