Located on Shodoshima Island in western Japan, approximately 180 km west of Osaka, this store and facility serves a client deeply immersed in the olive industry, covering aspects from cultivation to sales. The project transcends traditional boundaries, redefining the relationship between designers and clients. Faced with the significant challenge of establishing a supply chain on a remote island, the project uniquely utilized only local resources.
A standout feature of this venture is the active involvement of the client in both the design and construction phases. This collaborative approach, coupled with the utilization of digital fabrication technology, ensured that the project not only overcame logistical complexities but also upheld a high standard of wood joinery work. 'Shodoshima the GATE LOUNGE' is not just an architectural project; it's a pioneering example of sustainable, collaborative design that integrates local resources and client engagement, setting a new benchmark in the field.
