Collaborating with jewelry designer Rosanne Pugliese on her first retail store, Sherman Architects struck gold. The site was the grubby basement of a Brooklyn Heights brownstone. After stripping away the cheap finishes, they found handsome brick walls and oak floors. They also enlarged the front window to double as a vitrine for display.
At the sidewalk entry, you now step down into an inviting store-cum-salon. Warm spot lights showcase the jewelry while drawing guests in. Deep hues turn rough surfaces and exposed pipes into a bas-relief backdrop for Rosanne’s lustrous gems and curated objets. A brass beaded curtain screens a small office. Behind that is the artist’s workshop.
