Prukpirom House Renovation ( PPR House)
A House of Connection and Privacy
Prukpirom House Renovation is the renovation of a house that has stood for more than 29 years, set within a generous site that allows for various possibilities to expand the existing living spaces.
The owners wanted to significantly increase the usable area while maintaining a sense of openness and a strong connection to the surrounding greenery. At the same time, the family of four — parents, a son, and a daughter — each values privacy and often prefers to spend time in their own personal spaces.
The key challenge was therefore not simply to add more space, but to balance individual privacy with a sense of togetherness.
Connecting Through Space
One of the key interventions was to carve out the existing floor slab to create a double-volume space, establishing a visual connection between the first and second floors while bringing more natural light into the center of the house.
The staircase was redesigned and enlarged to better suit the scale of the renovated house, and positioned alongside the double-volume space. As family members move between the two floors, the staircase naturally creates opportunities for them to see and encounter one another throughout the day.
The stair thus becomes more than circulation — it becomes part of the social connection within the home.
Bringing the Garden In
Years of additions had made the central areas of the existing house relatively enclosed and dark. The renovation introduces large glass openings throughout the house, bringing natural light deeper into the interior while opening views toward the surrounding gardens.
The greenery is no longer simply something around the house, but becomes part of the experience of living inside it.
A Home for Everyone
The renovation reorganizes the relationship between people, spaces, and nature, allowing each family member to have their own space while maintaining visual and spatial connections throughout the house.
