SGA’s design for the new four-story headquarters of Pipefitters Association Local 537, an organization that is more than 100 years old, honors the past while setting the stage for future advancement.
This state-of-the-art facility, which will establish the standards for all other Pipefitters’ locations, replaces two existing buildings that date from 1880 and 1964. History is enmeshed in the design, however: The dynamic lobby integrates displays that highlight a century of achievements and member stories. Furthermore, the materials SGA selected evoke a workshop environment. These include a two-story plywood-paneled wall etched with expressions of Pipefitters’ key values, and a steel-pipe wall that showcases the detail of welded seams, with organizational mottos engraved on water jets.
Encompassing a training center, offices, a multi-purpose auditorium, and classroom, the new headquarters incorporates innovative green strategies, and member-friendly HVAC systems. The expected completion date for the project is the third quarter of 2018.
