The historic 1920's dining facility at Phillips Andover academy in Andover, Massachusetts desperately needed an upgrade. The kitchen was antiquated, and the interiors had not been touched since a bad renovation in the 1970's. The answer was a complete gut renovation of the student lounge, kitchens, and serveries, combined with a sensitive restoration of historic public spaces. Inappropriate lighting added in the previous renovation was removed. New replica fixtures were added into the public spaces, along with supplemental lighting to meet current light levels standards. Improvements in lighting efficiency helped the building obtain LEED silver certification.
