Despite its many exposures, this Park Slope triplex was dark and labyrinthine. Straightening out the circulation sent shafts of daylight through the whole building. And removing the old stair from the kitchen freed up room for long run of soapstone counters and high-gloss cabinets.
Now, a new stair runs down an exposed stone foundation wall, while the steps morph into bookshelves. We slipped a new laundry chute down through the three new floors: one teak, one bamboo, and one Chinese maple.
