Oil-spill recovery unit is a storage building designed for emergency services and coast guard for storing the material needed when battling oil spills especially on the Baltic Sea. Oil-booms, shovels, and any other material needed must be readily available when disaster strikes to contain the damage. This building is thus designed for rugged use with emphasis on logistics, function and economics. Natural light is brought into the building via a clerestory ribbon window that protrudes from the building. This form was conceived to protect the polycarbonate sheets from the spikes of forklifts that constantly operate inside the building. This also creates the recognizable profile of the building together with the red color of the fire department. We have designed the container storage as an integral part of the building. Noticeable color and form is visible from the sea. Surrounding asphalt area is utilized both for training and moving the material and containers.
