Ballinger programmed and designed a new molecular research facility for VCU located on a prominent site directly fronting the city's primary arterial street, Broad Street, and virtually overlooking the state capitol. The building further defines the plaza between several buildings, two of which are historic landmarks, while providing a direct link to VCU's existing research building. At 10 stories, the new facility provides additional laboratory and seminar space for research in Molecular Medicine, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, and Microbiology, while providing an appropriate contextual response to an important and historically significant site. This building was also certified LEED Silver.
