Koptische Kerk Den Haag
Due to the growth of the Coptic church congregation, an extension of the existing church building has become essential. Located in the Benoordenhout district of The Hague—an urban area with a strong architectural identity—the church is being expanded to include new spaces for the Sunday School and a chapel.
The vertical extension (rooftop addition) respects the existing building and aligns with the stylistic features of the original architecture, while simultaneously introducing distinct Coptic elements. These traditional references are expressed through cross-shaped finials, round-arched window openings, and a prominent Coptic cross on the gable end, which is also visible from inside the chapel.
The new windows are carefully aligned with the existing window openings, creating a strong cohesion between old and new. In this way, the extension forms a harmonious and meaningful addition to the church complex.
