Innovation Pavilion Kloosters
Rijkswaterstaat is developing an Innovation Pavilion near the Kloosters rest area and gas station along the A58 highway (near Oirschot). This pavilion will serve as a public showcase for ongoing advancements in sustainability and road construction. Designed as a temporary structure, it provides a collaborative hub to shape the future of mobility, sustainability, and infrastructure. The pavilion is an integral part of Rijkswaterstaat’s InnovA58 project—a "living lab" where sustainable innovations across infrastructure, mobility, and ecology are tested and developed. During the construction of the new Kloosters 2.0 service area, the building will function as a meeting space, workspace, and test location.
Circular and Adaptive Design
The building features a circular, modular, and sustainable design. Equipped with a sedum roof and a smart structural layout, it maintains a comfortable indoor climate during both summer and winter. The pavilion is designed to evolve alongside the area's development, and will eventually be neatly deconstructed or reused.
Jasper de Wert, architect at Topos and member of the Symbiotic Building Cooperative (Symbiotisch Bouwen Coöperatie), explains that the team adopted an open collaboration approach to explore how the pavilion could be realized with the highest possible level of circularity and sustainability. The result is a practical and inspiring space dedicated to collaboration, innovation, and progress.
