Koptische Kerk Bussum
We have been commissioned to design the transformation and interior design of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Saint Mary and Saint Verena in Bussum, commissioned by the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Netherlands.
Housed in a municipal monument dating back to 1953, this church combines historical character with spirituality and cultural identity. A key guiding principle for the design is that the new extension remains subordinate to the main church building.
The distinctive masonry takes inspiration from the existing structure's Bossche School architectural style. Additionally, a signature Coptic architectural feature—the round arch—is prominently integrated into the main facade. This creates a design that is both representative of the local Coptic church community in Bussum and a thoughtful nod to the adjacent historic church.
We look forward to developing this monumental project further and contributing to a space where heritage, ritual, and community come together.
