Spaces for exchange and discreet spaces; contacts, between streets, square, courtyard, terrace, rooftop, work spaces and other nearby buildings. Using three materials, concrete, aluminium and glass arranged in variable thicknesses, habitable, visitable and registrable. The U-shaped walkway is absorbed by the thickness of the skin, the concrete walls extend to form the tapestry of the square in low relief, the limits of the plot dissolve into the interior space. The light is filtered in gradients according to the projected thicknesses and the orientation of the programmed slats.
The proposal focuses on the search for balance with the surroundings and compliance with the principles of sustainability in the building. The open plan concept frees the skin of the building from its load-bearing functions, giving it greater versatility and attractiveness, changing variations in appearance, energy collection capacity, protection and representativeness. The skin of the building is an active and reactive membrane, efficient for the use of solar and mini-wind energy. An ‘intelligent skin’ that shapes the vibrant and changing image of the building. Reacting to the external solicitations, to the demands of the programme, to its polyvalences and specificities, rooting itself in the place and reactivating this fragment of the Canary Islands Exhibition Centre.
