At the end of October 2025, the historic but dilapidated Liljeholmsbadet was towed away permanently. It is to be renovated and subsequently relocated across the water to Marievik.
Together with the Traffic Office and landscape architects, DinellJohansson has investigated the potential of the site to accommodate a new floating municipal sauna where Liljeholmsbadet was previously located. The facility will be financed through a low admission fee and will also include areas accessible to the general public beneath a pergola that is formally integrated with the building itself.
The sauna will be able to accommodate 14–16 visitors at a time and will include a changing room, a staff area with a toilet, a cleaning facility, and an electrical distribution room.
DinellJohansson designed the building and the pier, producing the documentation required for the procurement of a contractor. The documentation was subsequently developed further in consultation with the construction contractor.
The proposal for the new sauna at Hornstull is based on the opportunity to create a safe and welcoming meeting place that harmonizes with the new park design along the waterfront promenade. The consistently bright verdigris-green colour of the façade and roof, together with the lighting and activity inside, contributes both a sense of safety and a distinctive character to the site.
Activating all sides of the building through various functions, openings, and decorative lighting is important in creating a safe and cohesive environment.
