At this beautiful hidden spot in IJsselstein on the boundary to the countryside, we made a design for a villa. The plots are in line with the original ribbon development on the Achtersloot. To experience being 'outside' and to ensure the privacy of the house at the same time it is designed as a long, slim volume. In this way, the villa blends in with the original structure of the landscape.
For the program, the front and back of the house are rotated a quarter so the side yards can be used and experienced to a maximum. Both the living and dining room border the full length of the gardens and are positioned fully on the sun. The house required a second floor to accommodate the full program. A pitched roof would make the second floor practically unusable as the maximum height was not a full floor. That’s the reason the house is designed as one volume and the second floor is not a loosely readable addition.
