Echo House is the first private residential project in Hong Kong to use modular integrated construction, or MiC. This sustainable, efficient technology is allowing 90% of the building to be pre-fabricated off-site, minimising disruption in one of Hong Kong’s most densely-packed neighbourhoods.
The building is an urban oasis for high-density Kowloon – creating a green commons for residents and the wider community. Multi-level green areas, a generous set-back and a sky garden improve the surrounding microclimate; while the large urban plaza brings the community and the natural world together in a street-level, pedestrian-friendly public realm.
Through MiC and sustainable, biophilic, future-focused design, the Echo House project is a green rejuvenation of an old neighbourhood, creating positive social and environmental impacts to inspire the next generation.
This green urban oasis prioritises the connection of residents to the natural world. A landscaped staircase creates an interconnected landscape for residents to explore and enjoy, while a vertical green wall and planters connect to the surrounding urban ecology and help enrich local biodiversity. Its terraced roof and open lawn will encourage outdoor activities, while balcony planters and a rooftop farm will allow residents to produce their own nutritious organic food, interact and uplift the concept of urban agriculture.
The 900+ sq. ft. urban plaza with its multi-level greenery was created by setting back the building mass. This space will welcome the wider community and revitalise the street through the creation of ‘green shelters’ for both people and wildlife, shaded by natural barriers and brightened by growing trees. This pedestrian-friendly public realm will hopefully become a gathering space for the neighbourhood and promote community engagement.
The Echo House Project not only creates smart, liveable, human-centric homes that provide an optimal quality of life for residents; it promotes a sustainable lifestyle that reduces environmental impacts and nurtures and revitalises an entire community.
