Don Campbell Elementary School was designed to accommodate 600 K-5 students at opening through the addition of modular units. As the first new school for the Red Deer Public School District in over a decade, the school embraces 21st Century Learning approaches with a focus on community engagement, flexible learning areas, and a community learning model.
The school connects to a series of outdoor classrooms and is organized into a series of learning communities around centralized learning commons. The design celebrates the joy of learning through colourful exterior and interior materials and finishes. Additionally, a "light spectrum" concept has been broadcast into an external screen that features LED lighting and can be programmed for unlimited illumination patterns.
