Cloud901 is a free, safe space for teens to brainstorm, create, present and showcase art through high-tech digital skills. It offers flexible creative spaces to enjoy planned and unplanned activities that can change as needs change.
After successfully serving the public for 14 years, the client requested the architect assist with the creation of a media-rich learning environment specifically for teens to develop 21st century skills, including innovation, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. The learning lab would provide top-of-the-line technology and training in a Memphis-centric environment connected directly with market-leading experts, talented mentors, invested educators, and infused with the raw and imaginative talent of Memphis teens.
Here teens not only encounter but develop proficiency with technologies and programs available to them nowhere else. The lab is designed to be ever-evolving and includes audio and video production labs; makerspace; collaboration, brainstorming, and homework/tutoring/college preparation and support areas; art studio and gallery; performance stage; HiTech treehouse; and dream catcher space. In this learning lab teens discover and give expression to their dreams, learn 21st century skills, network with professionals, create and build upon opportunities for an extraordinary future for themselves and for their community.
