In Colombes, north-west of Paris, this family house is clad entirely in charred timber. The burnt surface of the boards, obtained by controlled superficial combustion, replaces chemical treatment and paint: the carbonised layer keeps insects away, slows weathering, and lets the facade age without maintenance. The deep black volume, sharp and abstract in the street, is softened by light timber window reveals and by the garden it opens onto. Delivered in 2024.
