Aurea Atoll is envisioned as a luxurious island resort in Abu Dhabi, inspired by the natural formation of an atoll — a circular group of coral islets surrounding calm lagoon waters. Drawing from this organic coastal phenomenon, the project transforms the idea of a coral rim into an immersive hospitality destination, where islands, villas, beaches, lagoons, and leisure experiences are arranged as a fluid archipelago within the sea.
The masterplan is shaped by the concept of the ring. Rather than creating a single linear resort, Aurea Atoll is composed as a series of interconnected landforms that gently curve around protected turquoise lagoons. These lagoons become the heart of the experience, offering calm waters, framed views, and a sense of privacy within the openness of the Arabian Gulf. The result is a destination that feels both expansive and intimate, where every journey reveals a new relationship between land, water, and horizon.
Architecture is designed to sit lightly within this island landscape. Overwater villas extend from the shoreline like fragments of coral, connected by delicate timber walkways and surrounded by clear shallow waters. Their soft white rooflines, warm timber screens, private decks, and plunge pools create a refined resort language that balances contemporary luxury with relaxed island living. Each villa is oriented toward privacy, sea views, and direct contact with the water.
At the centre of the resort experience, the main arrival and hospitality pavilion takes inspiration from the layered structure of coral and the silhouette of traditional maritime forms. Its sculptural timber canopy becomes a landmark within the island, welcoming guests from the marina and creating a memorable first impression. The pavilion’s open, shaded structure allows sea breeze, filtered light, and views to pass through, reinforcing the project’s connection to climate, craft, and coastal identity.
The resort experience unfolds through a sequence of beaches, lagoon edges, marina moments, island pathways, palm groves, dining destinations, wellness areas, and secluded villa clusters. The changing scale of Aurea Atoll — from panoramic aerial views to intimate private decks — creates a journey of discovery across the island. Guests move between open sea, sheltered lagoons, shaded gardens, and elevated hospitality spaces, constantly connected to the rhythm of water.
Sustainability and sensitivity to the marine environment are central to the concept. The atoll-inspired planning encourages protected lagoon conditions, soft shoreline transitions, and a landscape strategy rooted in coastal vegetation. The use of lightweight structures, shaded outdoor living, natural ventilation, and climate-responsive materials supports a resort experience that is luxurious yet mindful of its island setting.
Aurea Atoll reimagines the coral atoll as a contemporary hospitality destination. By blending circular island formations, turquoise lagoon waters, overwater villas, and sculptural coastal architecture, the project creates an exclusive retreat where nature, luxury, and the spirit of the sea come together in a timeless island experience.
