Rising just blocks from the San Francisco Bay, Folsom Bay Tower is an urban residential community of 390 condominiums near the heart of the city. Targeting LEED Gold certification, the 480,000-sf high-rise will include parking and retail space fronting Folsom and Main Streets—a highly walkable area of the city with excellent transportation connections. The project seamlessly integrates multiple types of plan layouts and sizes within the architecture and meets San Francisco’s affordable housing goals with more than a third of the units designated below market rate.
The design introduces an evolution of the classic bay window, a familiar architectural feature of San Francisco’s early houses. Deployed over the height of the tower, the bay windows offer spectacular views and increased opportunities for cross ventilation. The bays rotate up the building, creating a variety of orientations and lending individuality to each unit. The distinctive exterior form and texture are the result of special attention to the building’s energy performance and the experiential qualities of the design from the inside out.
