SUP atelier, founded by Prof. Song Yehao from Tsinghua University School of Architecture in Beijing around 2011, dedicated to the research and practice on sustainable urban and architectural design. SUP Atelier explores the simultaneous sustainability of natural resources and human community through high context sensibility, modest architectural strategies, and tectonic research on natural and local materials, in relevant to integrate buildings to the environment and community livings. SUP Atelier focuses on sustainable theory within the scope of architecture, urban studies, and building technology, while highly promoting the combination of modern design and vernacular architecture in China. Regional and local understandings are rather important, to further initiate innovative design based on the understanding, and thus the design strategy is always incorporating the latest technical measures or traditional climate adaptation design strategies at that time. Within the scope of holistic sustainability, various computer simulation software to simulate and high-end building technique adoption could highly assist the decision-making based on the above-mentioned translation design strategy and fulfil the vision. SUP Atelier’s projects have been recognized internationally and have won over 60 awards worldwide, such as winner of engineering prize at World Architecture Festival(2019); Jury winner and “Building of the Year” at Architizer Awards(2019), gold prize at WAN awards(2019), gold medal at ARCASIA award of Architecture(2019), winners at AMP awards(2018, 2017), winners at IDA awards(2018), shortlisted for Dezeen awards(2018); first prize of Excellent design award of Ministry of Education in China(2019, 2016), etc. SUP Atelier has been invited as guest speaker in several notable international conferences, such as Daylight Symposium (2016 in London, 2019 in Paris), KLAF(2019 in Malaysia), INBAR (2019 in Myanmar, 2020 Online), PLEA(2016 in Los Angeles, 2020 Online), and also involved as lecturer at Technical University Turin, National University of Singapore, Kanazawa University and Harvard University, etc. Research and project conducted by SUP Atelier has been published on architectural media such as archdaily and dezeen and magazines in different countries, including Greece’s KTIRIO, Korea’s Architecture and Culture and MARU, Spain’s Arquitectura Viva, Italy’s AZERO and LegnoarAhitettura magazine.
