ahrens & grabenhorst are an architecture studio in Hanover, Germany, focusing on the city, its houses and their volumes for over twenty years . It reached nationwide recognition for the extension of the East-Frisian Regional Museum, the expansion of the Art Museum in Celle as well as for the conversion of a former church into a synagogue for the Liberal Jewish Parish in Hanover, honoured with the State of Lower Saxony Award for Architecture in 2010.
The studio was founded by Prof. Gesche Grabenhorst and Roger Ahrens in 1994, since then realizing projects of various types, enjoying an excellent reputation in the field of architecture for a long time and being awarded with several prizes over the years.
Their projects inherent a clear form language combined with high quality design and cost awareness. Ecological, social as well as economic factors influence each phase of a project. Transparent communication and a dialogic approach present the base of the architect’s work.
The interdisciplinary team of experts consists of architects, engineers, designers, model makers, lighting professionals, cultural scholars, and historians. Depending on the project, the teams are then set up individually, staffed of engineers, landscape architects and exhibition organizers.
