Villa Verde
Villa Verde is conceived as a contemporary tropical residence embedded within the landscape of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Currently under construction within the gated community of Hacienda Okhra, the project explores the relationship between privacy, openness, and environmental responsiveness—positioned just minutes from the Pacific coastline yet intentionally grounded in its immediate natural surroundings.
Rather than imposing on the site, the architecture is designed to integrate with it. The villa is carefully oriented to capture distant ocean views while maintaining a strong connection to the vegetation and topography that define the area. Its spatial organization prioritizes cross ventilation, filtered light, and shaded transitions, creating an environment that responds passively to the tropical climate.
The project is structured around a central living platform, where interior and exterior spaces operate as a continuous system. Social areas extend outward toward the pool, dissolving physical boundaries through large openings and covered terraces. The private program—composed of four bedrooms—is distributed to balance intimacy and openness, allowing each space to engage with the landscape in a distinct way.
Materiality plays a key role in shaping the experience of the villa. Durable, locally attuned materials are selected not only for their performance in a humid, coastal environment, but for their ability to age naturally over time. The architecture embraces a restrained palette, allowing light, shadow, and vegetation to become the primary protagonists.
Sustainability is approached as an inherent design strategy rather than an added feature. Passive cooling, efficient systems, and thoughtful construction methods work together to minimize environmental impact while enhancing spatial comfort. Every decision—from orientation to material selection—responds to the logic of building in the tropics.
Set within the dynamic context of Santa Teresa, Villa Verde reflects a balance between retreat and connection. It offers a space of calm and introspection, while remaining closely linked to the energy of the town—its surf culture, wellness practices, and natural richness.
