This housing complex on the Voltastrasse in Frankfurt am Main is the result of a competition held in the autumn of 2001. It reminds of large Viennese residential yards. The powerful clinker brick façade of the U-shaped block contrasts with its filigree railings. The architecture deliberately makes associations to the factory architecture of the environment, dating from the beginning of the twentieth century and gradually disappearing in this area. A few - but clearly defined - advances, regressions and deep roof cuts give a restrained plasticity to the housing block. Not only regarding appearance, but also in user friendliness the structure tries to set an example. The fifteen dwellings per staircase and three rental units per floor provide for clear size and flexibility.
