Village North comprises 15 units of affordable workforce rental housing serving the Lopez Island community. This community helps provide much needed affordable, sustainable, and accessible housing to low-income workers, seniors, disabled people, homeless people, and families who call Lopez home. This project is a collaboration with Housing Lopez, a local community-driven nonprofit working to create affordable rental housing on Lopez Island.
The construction included four structures broken into 12 one-bedroom and 3 two-bedroom apartments. The houses are all equipped with triple pane windows, solar paneled roofs, engineered wood floors, custom cabinetry, and energy-efficient appliances. The design of the homes incorporated universal design approaches to ensure the homes are safe and accessible to people of all different ages, abilities, and needs, with features such as slip resistant flooring, backing grab bars in the bathrooms, showers with removable thresholds, and thermostatic and anti-scald control faucets.
In addition to the individual apartments, there are a variety of community amenities available to residents. All structures contain decks at the ground floor for outdoor living and are connected to an open and central community space. There are also EV charging stations in the parking lot and solar panels on each of the four buildings.
