At 44 stories, the U.S. Bank Center (constructed in the late 1980s) had weathered the passage of time and needed a revitalization. The building gave little in terms of public amenities and street-level experience. The challenge was transforming this iconic space into a dynamic workplace and a welcoming public space that would benefit tenants and the community.
The design approach was deliberately holistic yet pinpointedly focused– considering the wider urban impact of the design to zooming in on the finer details that nod to the Post-Modern style of the building. The heart of the transformation lies in Cedar Hall, the reimagined atrium. The cramped confines are replaced by an
open, inviting expanse. 3.6 million green penny tiles form the ceiling, reflecting sunlight while highlighting tactility. Operable doors and accessible seating weave activity and gathering spaces into a dynamic indoor streetscape. The Tower Lobby becomes a lively crossroads, guiding visitors through curated art and adaptable settings. A tranquil lounge nestled beneath the staircase fosters connection and relaxation, con-verging aesthetics and functionality.
The Spruce Room, a smaller haven overlooking Cedar Hall, features lounge seating, counter-height workspaces, and operable glazed walls, providing tenants and the public a space to un-wind. Its design echoes Cedar Hall's aesthetic, while a lowered ceiling creates a cozy counterpoint to the expansive atrium.
The revitalization celebrates accessibility by showcasing previously hidden ADA ramps and prioritizing equitable circulation. By introducing street-level porosity and clarifying boundaries be-tween public and private spaces, the U.S. Bank Center transforms itself into a hub for exploration.
The U.S. Bank Center has become a vibrant tapestry of experiences under one roof. Whether you seek delectable meals, diverse shops, or a productive workspace, Cedar Hall welcomes you. This convergence of possibilities transforms the space into a microcosm, seamlessly blending every-day routines with opportunities.
