Designed by Jasmax, the Faculty of Engineering Innovation Centre is the first development on the University of Auckland’s Newmarket campus; the newest addition to its integrated campus cluster, adjoining the City and Grafton campuses across Auckland.
Expansion to this site supports long term growth, and enables the University to deliver the full benefits of a multi-disciplinary research university to New Zealand. Situated in the heart of Newmarket, the former Lion Breweries site has undergone a significant transformation. Four existing brewing and bottling warehouses (Buildings 901-904) have been repurposed to accommodate large scale engineering research facilities.
The newly constructed Civil Engineering Test Facility, Building 906, houses a structure test hall - a nine-metre structure capable of earthquake testing buildings up to three storeys - thought to be the largest in Australasia, with adjacent four-storey workshop and office building.
A complement of highly specialised research labs, flexible co-discipline shared laboratories and social spaces, this integrated research hub provides the catalyst for increased collaboration and expansion of the Engineering Faculty’s research capabilities and paves the way for a comprehensive redevelopment of the City Campus facilities.
