The Tisch Elevator Tower is a twenty story concrete tower located at NYU Langone Medical Center’s campus at 33rd St and 1st Ave. in Manhattan. The tower, which was constructed as part of NYU Langone’s ongoing renovation of this campus, is directly adjacent to and connects at each floor to the existing Tisch Hospital building that was built in the early 1960s.
The Elevator Tower provides Tisch Hospital with four additional elevators, eliminating overcrowding at the hospital’s original elevator banks. In addition, the tower adds twenty stories of new lobby, meeting and mechanical spaces. Tisch Hospital needed to remain fully operational during the construction of the 38,000 sf Elevator tower. The superstructure is seismically detailed, reinforced concrete special moment frames and special shear walls.
