Future Simple Studio has been retained by the LGBT Purge Fund to create the branding
identity, all digital assets, and on-site signage and wayfinding for the 2SLGBTQI+ National
Monument slated to open in Summer 2025 in Ottawa.
Our team became involved with the 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument project in 2023 when the client required a communication strategy for collecting votes from a wide Canadian audience to determine the winning design. After we developed, launched, and managed a successful digital campaign (which led to the selection of the winning team), we were invited to create the monument’s brand identity, naming, voice, print materials, website design & development, as well as all the assets needed for the May 1st Groundbreaking event. We also created all social media content, including special animations, art direction and production of videos capturing the historic moment.
Given the success of our collaboration with the client, LGBT Purge Fund, the National Capital
Commission, and the winning landscape architect PCA, we were invited to create the signage and wayfinding of all on-site elements and to ensure that the brand is brought to life in the most resounding manner, both digitally and physically, ahead of the 2025 opening. To bring the brand to life, and in collaboration with our printing expert, we created a first ever architectural application of iridescent aluminum which will be used for all on-site signage; though seemingly subtle in certain lighting conditions, this material shines with all the colours of the rainbow when it catches the sunlight, representing our vision for an ever inclusive future.
The 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument will be a place to heal, invite discussion, awareness and deliberation. It will embody the strength, activism and hope of 2SLGBTQI+ communities.
Since there is no other 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument in the world, Future Simple Studio’s
designs aim to reflect how unique this opportunity is.
