The Break House embodies our client’s dedication to contrast therapy, inspired by the Nordic Cycle: Warm. Cold. Warm.
Designed as a retreat near Narrowsburg, NY, the house mirrors this flow through its form and function. A dogtrot layout separates the primary suite from the main living and guest areas with a covered outdoor breezeway that serves as a dining and lounge space. This central open area creates a seamless connection to nature, marking the journey from start to finish each day.
The Guest Wing:
A long hallway connects the main living area to two guest bedrooms, which share a full bath. Expansive 5’x8’ windows and skylights flood these spaces with natural light. Vaulted 18’ ceilings and forest views provide a sense of vastness, balancing simplicity and low maintenance.
The Primary Suite:
Accessed via the breezeway, the primary suite offers ultimate privacy and stunning forest vistas. Its spa-like bathroom features a wet room with seamless porcelain tile, a large soaking tub, and a glass divider overlooking the meadow. The minimalist bedroom includes massive picture windows and a custom white oak dressing bench that doubles as a meditation nook.
Kitchen & Living Space:
The heart of the Break House is the open kitchen and living area, unified by natural concrete floors and soaring 18’ ceilings. The kitchen boasts custom white oak cabinetry, porcelain countertops, and matte black accents.
The living room is anchored by a wood-burning STUV fireplace, with skylights and full-height sliding glass doors that invite abundant light and blur the boundary between indoors and out.
The Break House is a celebration of contrast—hot and cold, indoor and outdoor, retreat and rejuvenation.
