Drawing inspiration from the Andaman sea, we introduced “the spirit of the New Nautical”.
Part of HPL Hotels & Resorts’ Boutique Collection, The Boathouse Phuket opened in 1991 in the picturesque Kata Beach, and after more than 25 years in operation, it required a redesign to remain relevant and to reestablish its reputation, both as one of the best hotels in Phuket and a base for cruise holidays.
We took the former framework of the room layout as a starting point for the decor and expanded on it, leaving references and traces of the hotel’s history among the additions. Some of the details that we took note to highlight include preserving the wood flooring that’s aged beautifully over the years, as well as enhancing the trim and moulding profiles on the existing wardrobes and doors. The intent was to create a quintessentially new nautical setting, a sophisticated blend of old and new that pays homage to the hotel's past.
Design elements like corrugated metal sheets, treated and painted in a soothing pastel blue to mimic the texture of the sea, were used to encapsulate the feel of a modern yacht rather than an old boat.
We hope to see the space evolve with current generations and grow along with the times, all while keeping its tradition and history alive.
