After more than 50 years of abandonment and appearing on lists of most Tennessee’s most endangered buildings, the renovation of the historic Tennessee Brewery building (c. 1890) and construction of the new adjacent Wash House and Bottle Shop apartments are underway. What was once home to the largest brewery in the South and the region’s best example of Romanesque Revival architectural style, will now house a total of 148 residential units plus 16,000-square-feet of commercial and office space. A second phase will add an addition 130 units. The parking garage that serves these buildings is nearly complete, which marks the first milestone in the Brewery District Development.
