Sony Pictures Animation, Sony Pictures Imageworks, and Crunchyroll each bring distinct disciplines to the same content pipeline. For decades, the three divisions relied on a multi-building campus where proximity limited daily opportunities for exchange. The move to Mid-Wilshire presented a new ambition to create a collaborative experience within a single building. RIOS designed the 225,000-square-foot workplace as a creative hub where divisions retain individual identity within a connected production environment.
RIOS studied how creative teams develop ideas, review content, and move through production cycles. The research shaped a floor strategy organizing workplaces, production environments, and gathering spaces as a connected sequence across four floors. A three-story interconnected stair and two double-height social spaces create visual continuity throughout the building. Interiors unfold as a sequence of spaces, carrying visual continuity throughout the building. Rich textures, sculptural geometries, and curated landscaping integrate with cutting-edge technology to create immersive environments that are both evocative and modern.
Character-driven spaces and state-of-the-art production facilities create a connected ecosystem where ideas, content, and talent converge.
The campus flows like a series of scenes, anchored by shared gathering spaces. A vibrant indoor-outdoor dining room, an elevated coffee bar, a serene wellness room, and a 146-seat Dolby Atmos® and Dolby Vision® theater create a captivating experience to enjoy screenings. These richly detailed interiors serve as a binding element between the divisions, sparking creativity. Advanced post-production facilities (including voiceover rooms, edit bays, motion capture rooms and screening suites) are seamlessly integrated with meeting rooms and rejuvenation spaces. The combination balances technical precision with an artistic atmosphere. The result is a unified animation hub that allows the ideas of artists, writers, and creators to take center stage.
