Smart Wires, a rapidly expanding electrical company, made a strategic move in the spring of 2022. Relocating its headquarters from Union City, California, to Durham, North Carolina, was not just about supporting growth and attracting talent, but also about enhancing employee well-being. The new headquarters, spanning approximately 42,000 square feet, is a testament to our commitment to operational excellence and innovation. Little’s fully integrated team led the project through a two-phased design approach, resulting in a dynamic and collaborative work environment. The Office Phase encompasses 20,624 square feet, blending private offices with open workstations to foster collaboration and provide a welcoming atmosphere for both employees and visitors. This phase is seamlessly connected, both visually and operationally, to the Lab Phase, a 20,214-square-foot area dedicated to prototyping, testing, and showcasing products to clients. In addition to the central facility, the project includes a new 1,300-square-foot utility building designed to house electrical reactors, enabling Smart Wires to boost on-site power capacity for rigorous equipment testing.
Barringer Construction served as the General Contractor, bringing deep expertise and craftsmanship to the execution of the facility, while JLL provided third-party Project Management services, ensuring seamless coordination and delivery throughout the project lifecycle. This purpose-built headquarters reflects the company’s innovative spirit and steadfast commitment to operational excellence.
