Shed 10 is part of the Queens Wharf Category 1 Historic Place, resulting in this project including a strong heritage element. Once one of four industrial warehouse buildings constructed between 1909 and 1913, Shed 10 is the last remaining original industrial building on the Auckland waterfront.
The challenge was to redevelop Shed 10 into a dual purpose Cruise Ship Terminal - capable of processing ships carrying up to 3000 people and a multi-purpose event space, all while retaining the heritage and integrity of the iconic shed.
Jasmax worked with the team to deliver a design solution which has created a large, open, flexible base on which cruise and events overlay their specific programmes. The design also incorporates a series of sustainable initiatives including energy generation from roof mounted photovoltaic panels, 100% natural ventilation and 100% natural day-lighting of the first floor. Ultimately the redevelopment of Shed 10 has transformed the heritage building into a multi-functional space, encapsulating the heart and soul of Auckland’s Waterfront.
