The community center consists of the old schoolhouse on Bahnweg, built at the beginning of the 20th century, and the newer schoolhouse with a municipal depot, built in 1994 on Rebenstrasse. The municipal facilities have been redistributed. The representative, typical local building with a pitched roof houses the Bättwil administration. The attic has been converted into a community hall. The former schoolhouse, with its flat roof, now houses the kindergarten and playgroup.
Access to the administration building is from the railway line at the front, and now also via the rear, providing barrier-free access. The ground floor houses counters, offices, an archive, and restrooms. The existing structure contains multifunctional spaces such as meeting rooms on the upper floor. In the western part of the building, the floor has been raised to the same level to ensure barrier-free access to the public areas. The roof structure remains intact, with the load being transferred via new ceilings and walls constructed using prefabricated timber elements. This section contains the foyer, kitchen, storage, elevator, and staircase leading to the hall on the top floor. The foyer's increased ceiling height and the glazed connection to the hall create a strong spatial link.
The large new opening facing the square marks the entrance to the hall from Rebenstrasse and emphasizes the building's public character. The hall is illuminated by large openings in the gable facades and a skylight on the north side. Otherwise, the exterior appearance has been largely preserved. The energy-efficient renovation includes replacing all windows, insulating the roof, and, where appropriate, insulating the exterior walls and floors against the ground.
