Overlooking Lake Mendota, the new 52,000 square foot crewhouse is at the center of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Designed for both land and water practice, the building is layered with training facilities on the top level and boat storage on the bottom level, with the two levels of administrative, meeting, and support areas in-between. The building program suggested two different thermal zones: tempered zones on the upper and lower floors that are more responsive to climate and conditioned zones on the intermediate floors that are more traditionally controlled.
