Phase II of Pier Sixty-Six is an approximately ten-acre, mixed-use development spanning the north and south parcels of the 32-acre landmark waterfront destination. The project will extend Pier Sixty-Six into one of Fort Lauderdale’s most expansive waterfront promenades with expanded marina facilities, retail, hospitality, pools and spas, sports courts and four residential towers - all set within lush, layered planting designed for gathering, while strengthening neighborhood connections and enhancing the local ecology.
The opening of Pier Sixty-Six in 2025 established the foundation of the project’s transformation, delivering a 325-room resort, 88 residences, 13,000 sq ft spa, 12 culinary destinations, and a renewed sense of place. Drawing inspiration from the original hotel on the site, built in the 1960s, Phase II of Pier Sixty-Six will bring a new sense of architectural ambition to the waterfront, including a bold, marina-centered destination with a design identity entirely of its own.
With water as a primary element of development, an acre of land was dedicated to widening the canal fronting the Harbour Inlet neighborhood and creating a new basin that extends alongside the ground floor of shops, restaurants, public spaces. The architecture now responds to the guest experience, opening water views and a 1.43-mile-long promenade that connects the original Pier Sixty-Six on the northern parcel to the southern site.
By expanding the waterways as the project’s focal point, the buildings appear to float, their forms swept into the landscape in a deliberate blurring of water and land. Four mixed-use towers are arranged around this new basin, offering unrestricted waterfront views. Inspired by nautical features, the structures taper to maximize view corridors, sitting lightly on a mixed-use podium with carved-out areas that break down the mass and establish a dynamic stepping façade. A shift in the frontages gives each elevation a distinct face as guests move around the site.
Creating resilience in the design itself, the buildings’ forms were analyzed to respond to wind patterns and flow as height increases, with orientation tuned to minimize sun heat and maximize shade through deep, storm-ready balconies. Aligning with best practices for coastal environmental stewardship, amber, turtle-friendly lighting is integrated throughout the landscape to minimize disruption to sea turtle nesting and hatchling navigation. The use of regionally appropriate and low impact materials further supports sustainable site development and ensures long-term durability in a marine environment.
