Outpost reimagines the contemporary office as a hybrid ecosystem where work, wellness, and community converge within a landscape-integrated setting. Located in Guiones, Nosara, the project responds to an evolving understanding of how people work and what environments enable them to thrive. Rather than a conventional office complex, Outpost weaves together private work studios, collaborative community spaces, rest pavilions, and social gathering areas into a cohesive architectural and landscape narrative. The design acknowledges that meaningful work today demands both focused solitude and spontaneous connection—a duality that the project resolves through careful spatial orchestration and environmental immersion.

The architecture engages directly with Nosara's native vegetation and topography, treating the surrounding flora not as decoration but as a fundamental design partner. Open-air pavilions and semi-enclosed workspaces blur the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing natural light, cross-ventilation, and glimpses of the coastal forest to permeate the daily work experience. A restrained material palette of timber, concrete, and locally-informed detailing creates spaces that feel both contemporary and rooted in their context. Thoughtfully positioned apertures frame views while managing solar gain; permeable surfaces minimize stormwater runoff; and strategic plantings provide shade and habitat value. The result is a workplace where the act of looking out from your desk becomes a form of respite.

Outpost embodies a holistic approach to workplace wellness by recognizing that human productivity and environmental stewardship are inseparable. Passive design strategies reduce reliance on mechanical systems while active design choices—like the watch-the-sunset gathering terraces and post-surf rest zones—acknowledge the particular culture and lifestyle of coastal Costa Rica. The master plan prioritizes water conservation, native plant regeneration, and energy-conscious operations. Beyond its technical systems, Outpost functions as a statement about how contemporary work culture can be reimagined: not as consumption-oriented extraction, but as an engaged dialogue between human ambition, social connection, and ecological responsibility.
