Composed of diverse specialty program spaces, the Mott Haven Campus brings much needed public and shared areas to a rebounding area of the South Bronx. As a major landmark, the project is located on an 8.7-acre site within a revitalized neighborhood. This campus of four separate schools has been labeled the largest single school construction project in New York City history.Designed in association with Alexander Gorlin Architects, the ambitious project consolidates four different schools comprising fifth through twelfth grades. By locating the schools on one site, specialized spaces can be shared among all four schools, substantially reducing construction costs and maximizing efficiency. Each school continues to function as an independent entity, with separate entryways, classrooms, administrative spaces, and dining facilities. To serve as the off-hours community theatre, a state-of-the-art 600-seat performing arts center acts as the centerpiece of a shared program for the campus. A library for the charter school is located independent from the shared library for the secondary schools.
