LINK has been responsible for architecture, landscape and interior design at the new Psychiatric Clinic of Levanger Hospital, opened in 2018. The project includes refurbishment and new-build psychiatric clinic for aged psychiatry, emergency psychiatry and general psychiatry.
LINKs interdisciplinary team of Danish, Norwegian and Swedish healthcare architecture specialists have used evidence-based research methods and highly developed BIM-tools, contributing to the project's success. Collaboration, knowledge and experience ensured the project to be delivered ahead of schedule and below budget.
The project includes approx. 2 700 sqm extension consisting of three divisions and a psychiatric polyclinic, surrounding a central courtyard. The overall goal was to design a building that would fit gently in the park surroundings as well as the neighboring listed brick pavilions. In addition, we aimed to combine the highest requirements to flexibility, transparency and durability with the need to provide safety and comfort to patients and employees. A new main entrance is unifying all psychiatric buildings, with access via walkway to other psychiatric buildings as well as access to a separated common outdoor area. An atrium functions as a separate defined outdoor area for patients. The new building is also connected to the somatic hospital and other psychiatric buildings via culverts.
The project provides great interaction and flexibility between the psychiatric posts. LINK has contributed to the hospital room program to obtain maximum area efficiency and optimal use.
The hospital beds area requires high demands to logistics, robustness, transparency and flexibility, combined with the need of safe environment for both patients and employees. Indoor and outdoor environments facilitate the safety aspect and the ambition to create a healing environment.
