In 2008 JVA won the competition for the new masterplan of Myrkdalen ski resort near Voss. Myrkdalen Hotel is the first built project from this masterplan. The massing and location of the building is a part of a greater scheme. The hotel envelops the skislope creating a public space for a new alpine village.
The shape of the building is inspired by the traditional alpine chalets as well as American mountain lodges. The roof and plan is sculpted to adapt to the scale of the existing buildings on site and the surrounding landscape. The hotel is clad in wide laminated horizontal wood planks that help negotiate the scale of the building.
