The site of the new elementary school and sports hall is located on the edge of Krakelshaff Park, which offers a privileged relationship with nature. As a result, the volumes are arranged on the north side to open the buildings and playgrounds towards the park and to protect neighbouring dwellings from noise nuisance.
The theme of nature and water runs through the entire architectural concept and is reflected in the choice of materials and the layout of interiors and playgrounds.
Classrooms are organized as a cluster, allowing them to work together and enjoy a flexible and shared central area. The sports hall can be used outside school hours thanks to a separate entrance. The construction materials and design used are based on a sustainable, ecological, health-friendly approach, aiming at energy and cost savings. Thus, the school complex is seeking the DGNB “Gold” certification.
