Built by an active retired couple to be used several months of the year as retreat, the small house engages the Bay of Fundy’s large and rugged landscape, 57 acres and a mile of rocky coastline. The construction materials, stone, glass, wood, aluminum and stainless steel, resist the caustic marine environment.
In high winds, stiffened floor plates resist lateral load, allowing the building envelope to be largely composed of glass. The retreat is designed to slow the activities of every day life which are then permeated by the presence of the uninterrupted ocean horizon.
