After such a positive response to their Eagan location, Kitchen and Rail was in the market to expand. They set sights on Golden Valley, renovating the former Mort’s Deli location in a full-service restaurant.
Thielen & Green provided full-scope architectural and interior design services from initial fit planning through construction administration. Programming includes a new entrance with host station, new bar, expanded cookline, bar seating, formal dining room, expanded kitchen, new restrooms, and private dining room with mini-bar. The design carries forward much of the Kitchen and Rail aesthetic from Eagan, but also many details unique to Golden Valley. Details matter here, grabbing your attention through light, threshold and scale. Vibrant colors are paired with bold textures, seamlessly folding the rugged branding with clean lines and refined tastes. Kitchen and Rail takes their food, cocktails, and service seriously, but they like to have a good time. That extends to their design. Look close, you never know what is hidden in plain sight.
This project was delivered under a design-build approach with Benson-Orth as the general contractor. MEP + fire protection engineering was design-build. Our work utilized full BIM modeling for early design review, project coordination and clash detection, with a goal to limit field changes and expedite construction timelines.
